March 2012 – Month in Review

The month of March for many was a period where taxes were done. On March 10th we went down to H&R Block for our appointment and walked out owing $850 to the state. To say I was disappointed was an understatement! That aside I managed to save $683.09 towards my Investment Road to Freedom fund which was way short of my goal of $1000 per month. But the taxes accounted for that and next month I expect to be back to normal.

Overall my fund increased from $6489.01 to $6966.89 giving me an increase of $477.88.

The month saw two buys. 24 shares of Ford (F) in my Brokerage account and a covered call on Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) in my IRA account. The good performance of AMD and the income from the call option gave me a good monthly ROI for the IRA though that account is overall negative 3.84% for the year.

Work wise I am expecting a promotion sometime in April though I don’t have details on the pay increase yet. Any extra income will help build the fund tremendously.

I’m sure a lot of people come away from having their taxes prepared with a sense of disappointment.

You’re making progress and with the raise and not having a tax payment the first month of the second quarter should be a nice month for the Investment Road to Freedom Fund.

    Cheers

I feel ya with owing taxes, it’s never fun. I had to pay Uncle Sam and my state this year. Paying state taxes seems rediculous in my situation (being in the military) because I don’t even live in my home state anymore. I spent a total of 15 days back home and yet I still have income deducted monthly, plus I owe extra on top. Not fun.

Good luck with your freedom fund. Don’t let one month ruin your motivation. Good things lie ahead!

Thanks for stopping by. Yeah that does not seem right being a serving member of the military and owing the state taxes

Despite the taxes, it still sounds like it was a solid month. Keep up the good work!

It’s good to see you making progress. That’s all that really matters is that you’r at least moving in the right direction. Even if it’s $1 at a time which I know it sometimes feels like it. Oh, by the way thanks for adding me to your blogroll.

Thanks for stopping by. At the beginning it does seem like $1 at a time but like you said I’m moving forward. I look forward to following your pursuit!
