November 2012 – Month in Review

I’ve been away from here for a while due to a very busy period at work but I’m back and aim to post on here a lot more often. Since I last posted back in May I have paid off my car (last payment of $2700 a few weeks ago), seen my fund value go from $7600 to $12700 and my net-worth go from $15 to over $20k! These figures would have been much higher but I stopped my investment contributions for a few months so I could increase my car payments and finally get that loan done.

New Purchases:
None.

Sales:
None.

Dividends:
None. Dividends for 2012 stand at $28.55

Option Income:
None. Option income for 2012 stands at $47.07

Dividend Increases:
None.

Deposits:
$423.88 of which $220.88 went to my 401k, $195 went to brokerage account and $8 to IRA. I have to do better than this each month.

Investment Road to Freedom fund value:
The fund value stands at $12738.68 which means I have doubled my account value this year.
The breakdown of the individual accounts show

  • 401k = $5594.81
  • IRA = $2179.58
  • Brokerage = $2103.42
  • Other = $2285.48
  • EF = $575.39

Looking ahead to December:
December will see 4 of my holdings pay out dividends. I will not reach my goal of $100 dividend income for the year but it pushes it that much closer.

Credit Card Debt:
Stands at $3990.82. This debt is on my Best Buy Master-card and FNBO Visa cards. My main credit cards are the Costco American Express and the American Express Blue Cash Reserved. Both of these cards get paid in full each month.

Loan for Sofa:
$2565.03. We purchased a new sofa back in September with 12 months free interest. Our old sofa was terrible and had no back support and had to go.

Mortgage:
$171187.14. Our monthly payment is $1284.97. During November $242 of this went to the principal.

Income from Pay:
$4601.85. This is my take home amount. I get paid hourly so I get a lot of OT which makes a big difference.

Net-worth:
$20354. When I started this blog back in February this figure was a negative amount.

Conclusion:

November was the month I started to get back on track. My deposit amount was low but the previous two months were zero so a big improvement. The major achievement for me was getting the car loan paid off. I have already started saving for the next car – when that is I don’t know. Hopefully my current car will last a few more years. We are also saving for a dishwasher. I may get that in the Christmas sales but not decided completely.

Really solid year – increasing net worth from negative to +$20k! Keep it up!

Isn’t furniture ridiculously expensive? I am always shocked when I look at prices. I’m considering building by own…if I can convince the wife to approve.

There’s usually good deals on home appliances after the Christmas week. My apartment came with a dishwasher when I moved in but I’ve actually never used it lol. That’s great you’re doing so well with your financials lately. Must have been crazy busy with all those OT hours, but I bet it feels good to watch that net worth grow eh :0) Hope you’re doing well this month as well, and have a great holiday 😀

The ‘Investment Road to Freedom fund’ doubling is an excellent start. Good job also going from a negative to positive net worth. It will only get better

Thanks! I would love to double again this year. It will probably be the last year I can achieve that. Good to see you doing well.
