March 2013 – Month in Review

I entered March on the heels of a great February and hoped for similar returns. The month started badly after doing our taxes as we owed $500 to the state but I was able to recover and ended up with another great month.

New Purchases: None

Sales: None

Option Trades: $38.03
Ford – BTC APR2013 $13 covered call at $0.54 x 100. This cost me $68.98 after commission. This is in my Roth IRA account.
Ford – STO JAN2015 $15 covered call at $1.22 x 100. This earned me $107.01 after commission. This is in my Roth IRA account.

This month marked the first time I have ever had back to back months that produced income from options trades.

Dividends: $23.62

  • Ford (F) – $12.40
  • McDonald’s (MCD) – $6.16
  • Microsoft (MSF) – $5.06

This was my best month ever for Dividends, beating my previous record of $20.46 set back in December.

Deposits: $829.94
Out of this figure $304.94 went to my 401K, $400 went to my taxable account and the remaining $125 to my Roth IRA.

Investment Road to Freedom fund value:
The fund value stands at $17401.66 which is up 7.33% from the previous month.
The breakdown of the individual accounts show

  • 401k = $7832.72 +6.03%
  • IRA = $2804.39 +7.30%
  • Taxable = $3746.73 +14.74%
  • Other = $2323.69 +2.84%
  • EF = $694.13 +0.79%

Credit Card Debt:
Stands at $4105.01

Loan for Sofa:
$1480.03. We purchased a new sofa back in September with 12 months free interest.

Mortgage:
$170235.34. Our monthly payment is $1284.97. The March payment is still pending. I expect about $236 to go to the principal.

Income from Pay:
$5780.93. This is my take home amount. I get paid by the hour. March had 3 pay periods (paid every 2 weeks) so that is why this is higher than normal.

Income from Credit Card Rewards:
$25. This is from my American Express Blue Cash Preferred card. I have earned $278.69 in credit card rewards this year.

Net-worth:
$32209. This is an increase of $3969 from last month. My net worth has doubled in 5 months!

Summary:

Another great month as I push towards that $20k mark. My dividend and option income are the highlights this month. For April I have 1 stock (Coca-Cola) that will pay dividends which will give me another landmark of receiving dividends in consecutive months.  Hope everyone had a great month!

How impressive to double your net worth in 5 months! The increase in nominal terms (nearly $4k) is also very impressive. Keep up the good work!

Nice progress bro :) That’s over 10% growth to your wealth in just one month. I can’t believe I still don’t have KO in my portfolio yet. It’s really a great company. I currently lack the cash to buy any more stocks but maybe I’ll pick up some shares later in the summer.

I like the new layout. The net worth had a really nice increase. I know it’s a bit discouraging when you’re first trying to build up the portfolio, but keep at it and in time your dividends will just continue to grow.

Thanks JC. I like this layout much more though the comments section is not as good. Like when I reply to your comment it does not put my reply under your comment. Yeah there has been a few times when I thought may portfolio was small and was not getting there but slow and sure is the way.
